What is Ultra-High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC)?

Ultra-High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete, also known by the acronym UHPFRC, or UHPC (Ultra-High Performance Concrete), has a special composition that gives it significant mechanical advantages. UHPFRC is characterized by extreme compressive strength combined with reduced porosity and fibre reinforcement for enhanced strength. As a result, Ultra-High-Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete is more resistant to impact, wear, abrasion and climatic variations. The tensile and compressive strengths of UHPC are also better than with conventional concrete. For these reasons, Francioli has chosen to use UHPFRC to manufacture its range of street furniture: rest areas, concrete benches, passenger shelters, water fountains, concrete litter bins and ashtrays, etc. This enables us to produce top-quality products that are both durable and resistant to the hazards of the urban environment.

UHPC, ultra-strong concrete

UHPC is stronger than both conventional concrete and high-performance concrete (HPC). The properties of UHPC include better durability, guaranteeing increased strength. Strengthened with high-performance steel and cement fibres, UHPC offers excellent resistance to cracking, impacts and abrasion.

Generally speaking, fibre-reinforced concrete is easier to process than ordinary concrete, and it is also lighter. UHPC has also been shown to be highly resistant to various tensile and bending movements. Concrete has undergone many changes over the years. The quality of the concrete is therefore essential in preventing visual damage and vandalism.

The advantages of UHPC

UHPC has many advantages:

  • High resistance to abrasion and impacts
  • High density
  • Fire resistant
  • Durability
  • Low permeability
  • High surface hardness
  • Resistance to micro-cracking
